Brandee Younger
in Slovenski improvizacijski godalni kvartet (US, SI)
Brandee Younger is credited with the latest surge in popularity and re-affirmation of the harp as an important part of the instrument arsenal – not only in contemporary jazz but also soul and hip-hop. A student of jazz great Jackie McLean, Younger made her public debut in 2007, when Ravi Coltrane enlisted her to participate in the memorial service for his mother Alice. She has subsequently worked with artists as eminent as Jack DeJohnette, Common, John Legend, The Roots and Lauryn Hill. Her breakthrough album was the 2019 Soul Awakening, a year later she released Force Majeure with her partner Dezron Douglas on International Anthem. A year after that Somewhat Different, her major label debut, came out on the jazz giant Impulse! Records. Her latest album, Brand New Life, pays tribute to a fellow harp virtuoso, Dorothy Ashby.
Playing an exclusive concert with the Slovenski improvizacijski godalni kvartet (Slovenian Improv String Quartet) at the Jazz Festival Ljubljana, we are in for a truly special, one-off treat.
